Ranjita killing: Protestors try to storm CM bungalow

Angry members of the joint action committee (JAC) formed to demand justice in the case of alleged rape and murder of Lourembam Ongbi Ranjita Devi attempted to storm the official residence of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh here today.
The JAC members along with scores of local residents of Khoirom Mathak Leikai in Thoubal district's Yairipok staged a protest rally in the city and tried to storm the CM bungalow at Babupara.
Police, however, thwarted the attempt by stopping them near Babupara.
Five protestors were later allowed to go and submit their memorandums to the CM and the Home Minister.
The memorandums demanded the Government to arrest the culprits involved in the killing of 33-year-old Ranjita, wife of Lourembam Loken Singh, resident of Khoirom Mathak Leikai, and punished them befittingly.
Making it clear that the JAC would not claim the body of Ranjita until and unless the culprits are arrested, the memorandums also demanded the Government to give ex-gratia to the next of kin of the deceased.
The JAC warned the Government that it would take up sustain agitation if all the demands are not implemented by August 6, tomorrow.
Ranjita, a housewife, was found dead in Khoirom paddy field on August 2 .
The JAC has been claiming that Ranjita was raped and later murdered.
Police have claimed that they have arrested four suspects in connection with the case.
