International Day of Non-Violence observed

Imphal, October 02 2011:
As is done in the whole world, the International Day of Non-Violence was observed today in the state guest house.
The observation was organized by an organizing committee of 13 different organizations.
Padmashree RK Jhaljit graced the function as Chief Guest.
President, Mahila Kalyan Samiti Imphal S Sarju, President of United Religion Initiative Cooperation Circle Imphal M Ibohal, President of Sarvodaya Mitra Mandal Manipur Professor L Sadananda and President of National Youth Project Manipur Professor Ksh Bimola also attended the function as Presidium members.
Offering floral tributes to the photo of Mahatma Gandhi marked the observation.
The function was jointly organized by Sarvodaya Mitra Mandal Imphal, Senior Citizens for Society Imphal, United Religion Cooperation Circle Imphal, Manipur Peace Committee, Gandhian Institute of Rural Development Manipur, Kasturba Gandhi Seva Aashram Imphal, National Youth Project Imphal, National Youth Organisation Imphal, Coordination Committee for Peace and Normalcy in Manipur, Mahila Kalyan Samiti Imphal, Centre for Gandhian Study MU, United Voluntary..Youth Council Pologround and Gandhi Peace Foundation Manipur.
It may be mentioned that the day is observed on October 2, commemorating the birthday of Mohandas Gandhi.
On June 15, 2007 the United Nations General Assembly voted to establish 2nd October as the International Day of Non-Violence and has been observed as such since then to disseminate the message of non-violence through education and public awareness.
