Right to Information week to be celebrated

As part of the Nationwide celebration of Right to Information Week, the Manipur Information Commission will also be celebrating RTI Week from October 5 to 9 under the sponsorship of the Department of Personnel & Training, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievance and Pension, GoI.
The event will be organised with the objective of popularizing the RTI Act, 2005 and also to spread mass awareness among the stakeholders.
The opening ceremony of RTI Week will be held on October 5 at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound with Works Minister Thongam Biswajit Singh as chief guest, Keirao AC MLA, L Rameshwor Meetei as guest of honour and Kaching AC MLA, Y Surchandra as president, said a statement issued by Deputy Secretary, Manipur Information Commission.
The statement added that the opening function will be followed by a day long State level Workshop with eminent persons speaking on RTI as resource persons.
It further stated that a State level RTI essay competition will be held on October 7 with students from Higher Secondary Schools and Colleges at Johnstone higher Secondary School.
A district level seminar will also be held at Thoubal District HQ on October 6 with district level Govt Officers, NGOs, RTI Activists and citizens as participants.
Meanwhile, the closing function will be organised on October 9 at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound with Health Minister L Jayantakumar as chief guest and CAF & PD Minister Karam Shyam Singh as president wherein prizes for the essay competition will be distributed, it added.
The press statement has invited all State Government Officers, First Appellant Authorities, State Public Information Officers, State Assistant Public Officers, RTI Activists, members of CSOs, NGOs, Schools/College students and public to attend the event and avail the opportunity to know more about the Act.
