Chief Minister to SF: Curb UG activities

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh has given strict instructions to the security forces deployed in the state to curb the activities of different UG groups.
The instruction was given at the meeting of the Unified Command which was convened at the conference hall of Chief Minister's Secretariat at around 3 pm today.
According to reliable sources, the meeting minutely discussed the recent spate of bomb attacks on security personnel, monetary demands of UGs on individuals and government departments and threatening non-Manipuris to leave the state.
Sources revealed that the Chief Minister demanded solutions to the spate of bomb attackson security forces from their top officials who were present at the meeting.
The officials pointed out that the equipments used in attacking the security forces are being brought in from Myanmar and so there is the urgent need to take up stringent measures to prevent smuggling of arms and ammunition from Myanmar to Manipur.
The Chief Minister also instructed the State DGP to take up adequate measures to flush out UG cadres from Imphal Municipality area where the 'Disturbed Area' status has been removed.
He also advised the military forces and the state police commandos to go hand in hand to prevent possible attacks by UG groups in future.
The meeting was attended by DGP Y Joykumar; UK Gurung, IGAR (S), Major General Binoy Poonnen, GOC of 57 Mountain Division and the top officials of CRPF and BSF.
It may be mentioned that a meeting of the Strategic Operation Group (SOG) held on September 29 last with Chief Secretary DS Poonia in the chair had also taken serious note over the recent spate of bomb attacks by UG groups on security personnel deployed in the state.
