Establishment of formidable health care system mooted

A one-day public discussion on the present health care system in the State and relationship between doctors, nurses and patients was organized by Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN) at Manipur Press Club on Sunday.
Addressing the gathering as resource person, Dr Kh Palin, Managing Director of Shija Hospital & Research Institute said that there is an urgent need to improve the present health care system in the State by keeping a clear vision.
He stressed on the need for putting concerted efforts both from private and public sectors to establish a formidable health care system in the State.

Patient is referred to as king in health care.
Managing Directors and doctors of hospitals should not think that they are superior to patients, he said.
Asserting that condition of roads and bridges, tourism including health care system in the State will be developed once the "Act East Policy" or the Look East Policy is implemented, he said that the State should make best use of the policy mainly in health care.
He went on to say that law and order situation and infrastructure have to be improved to facilitate development of medical and tourism sector in the State.
Delivering the key-note address on the occasion, Y Surjitkumar, convener of HERICOUN said that a country will be able to compete in the development race only when its people live a healthy life free from diseases.
He reiterated that HERICOUN has been focusing on health care system in the State since 2000 with the firm belief that healthy living is necessary to bring collective growth and development.
Expressing deep concern on occurrence of wrath from public against doctor whenever patient dies while treatment, he pointed out that a situation has arisen where doctors were reluctant to treat serious patient fearing unwarranted incidents likely to crop up if the patient failed to survive evnetually.
Maintenance of good relationship between patients and doctors is necessary to avoid any misunderstanding and eventuality.
At the same time, doctors should render their duties according to wishes of the people.
Patient satisfaction is an effective indicator to measure the success of doctors and hospitals, the convener of HERICOUN said.
Sunday's discussion programme was also attended by Prof W Nabakumar, Anthropology Department, Manipur University as moderator; Prof M Shyamo, Director of JNIMS Hospital; P Shyamsundar, Additional Director of Directorate of Health Services and Longjam Ratankumar, president of HERICOUN as presidium members.
