HSL takes up cudgel for girl's education in Ukhrul

The Hunphun Shanao Long (HSL) has on its 26th Raising day spelt out dreams for intellectual progress of women by focusing on imparting quality and higher education among the fairer sex in the community.
On the occasion of its 26th Raising day organised at TNL ground here on Tuesday, HSL education project committee convenor Juno Shaiza highlighted plans "to encourage education of girl students, provide quality education and promote higher education among women" .
To realize their dreams for quality and higher education among women, the HSL outlined the need to record educational growth, extend financial support, impart vocational training, provide hostel facilities, and create awareness through mass media among others.
The women body felt that they have been reduced to domestic trudge and an instrument of men's pleasure while quoting lines from the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi, who also strongly advocated for the cause of fairer sex in the country.
The HSL 26th anniversary was today celebrated amidst pomp and gaiety as many womenfolk from different localities put up stalls to display and sell their produces.
The organizers informed that the proceeds from the sales would also go to the education project.
Deputy Commissioner Modak Hrisheekesh Arvind graced the function as chief guest, while 41 Assam Rifles commandant Col.Gaurav Bose and Hunphun village chief HA Wungrampan attended as guests of honours.
Hrisheekesh lauded the efforts of women in building the society and mentioned the need for participation of women in maintaining peace and harmony.
He also congratulated the HSL for the initiative on girl's education and encouraged them to keep up the good work.
In a similar line, Col.Gaurav and Wungrampan addressed the women gathering.
HSL president A.Shaiza expressed gratitude to the 41 Assam Rifles and 6 Manipur Rifles for extending material assistance towards the celebration.
The occasion today was observed with women presenting songs, dances and jokes much to the delight of the audiences.
Local singer Theithei Luithui belted out a newly composed number based on the recent violent happenings in Ukhrul town.
