Imphal, July 28 2013:
Awang Sekmai Unemployed Tata Magic Owners' Union has threatened to impose bandh along Imphal-Dimapur Road (NH-2) if the authorities concerned do not re-issue the suspended transport permit from Nagamapal to Leikhampokpi Tribal University Gate by August 10 next.
Addressing media persons in this regard at Manipur Press Club here today, Secretary of Awang Sekmai Unemployed Tata Magic Owners' Union H Priyo said that the permit for the present route was issued by Transport Department due to pressure from the villagers of Kanglatongbi, Shantipur, Makhan, Langlom and Leikhampokpi.
However, the permit was suspended by the Transport Department on July 15 at the insistence of All Manipur Bus Owners' Federation.
Village Chief of Leikhampokpi said that the suspension of Tata Magic Service has caused lots of inconvenience to the people in interior villages.
Bus service is available only on the highways, while Tata Magic passenger vehicles operate even in interior villages.
The villagers would support the Union in all agitations if the Transport Department does not re-issue the transport permit as soon as possible, he added.
