Thoubal, May 28 2020:
Former Minister Moirangthem Hemanta has opined that fighting the pandemic alone by the Government without the help of CSOs would not be effective as number of COVID-19 positive cases continues to rise in the State.
It seems all policies regulated by the State Government is failing gradually, he said adding that the public are also confused with the number of orders that have been issued by the Government regarding lockdown till date.
Manipur might have issued the most numbers of orders pertaining to lockdown, he asserted.
"A public uproar might also arise amid the lockdown as utilisation of COVID-19 Relief Fund lacks transparency, " he added and urged all to stop taking political mileage out of the COVID crisis.
Claiming that the public are not much aware of the details of the rice they received from the Government as it lacks transparency, he further alleged that reports of leaders not distributing rice to people who didn't vote for them in the election are seen in social media platforms such as Facebook.
To solve such problem, providing passbook/entry book to the public to record the quantity of rice or any assistance they receive from the Government would be beneficial, Moirangthem Hemanta opined.
He also said that most of the Institutional Quarantine Centres (IQCs) and Community Quarantine Centres (CQCs) have failed to serve its purpose, adding that facilities available in different ICQs and CQCs are also not same.
The State Government should also publicly announce the facilities that are made available in quarantine centres and money sanctioned for each inmate for a day in the State, he demanded.
