Imphal, December 27 2013 :
Outbreak of an unknown disease has reportedly claimed lives of several domesticated cattle and buffaloes at Chingai Village in Ukhrul district.
Talking to media persons in this regard here today, Secretary of Chingai Village Development Committee R Yangnee said that the unknown disease has affected the domesticated animals in the village for over a month now.
However, no official from the Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department has come to the village to investigate the outbreak of such deadly disease.
There is a veterinary centre in the village, but only one peon is managing the centre without any doctor or specialized staff.
The villagers are facing serious problems due to this deadly disease, the Secretary asserted.
He further noted that 15 cattle and buffaloes have died of this unknown disease so far.
The villagers of Chingai are predominantly agriculturalists and so the loss of livestocks would have serious implication on the economic condition of the village.
The authorities concerned should take up necessary measures to prevent such deadly diseases, Yangnee averred.
