Imphal, October 26 2016:
A report furnished by the Regional Malaria Research Centre, Dibrugarh on the outbreak of Japanese Encephalitis in July and August this year in some parts of the State said that mosquito species which transmitted JE was detected but the virus which caused JE could not be found.
A high ranking official of the State Health Department told The Sangai Express that experts from Regional Malaria Research Centre, Dibrugarh collected 2000 numbers of mosquitoes from Churachandpur and other places where JE cases were detected.
The mosquitoes thus collected were sent to the laboratory.
According to a report sent by the research centre, carrier mosquitoes could be detected but the virus which caused JE could not be found.
The virus which caused JE could not be found perhaps because fogging exercises were carried out promptly at all the places where JE cases were detected, said the official.
Notably, five persons were killed by JE while 46 persons were infected with JE in the State in July and August this year.
