Imphal, April 25 2020:
The Police Department during its drive to crack down on violators of lockdown/curfew and those not following protocol of wearing face masks in public or maintaining social distance, detained 992 such violators along with 740 vehicles today.
A total sum of Rs 1,12,440/- fine was imposed.
The police also warned that legal actions under the National Disaster Management Act, 2005 will be taken up against such violators of lockdown/curfew, said a press release issued by Additional Director General of Police.
In Singjamei Keithel area, a team of police led by OC P Sanjoy of Singjamei police detained a large number of people including women for not wearing face masks while stepping out in public.
The detainees along the road were asked to maintain distance amongst themselves and later released after strict warning and penalty by the authorities concerned.
Meanwhile, Thoubal police also detained 298 violators of lockdown/curfew along with 181 vehicles from different areas of the district.
They were produced before the Executive Magistrates concerned and fine of Rs 28,000/- imposed under the Motor Vehicles Act.
