Imphal, June 23 2021:
Potholes on the roads in Imphal city and its surrounding areas are posing serious threat to the lives of commuters.
The Uripok Khwairak Selungba Leirak is one of the worst affected roads in Imphal city area and yet the government has not been taking up any initiatives to repair the road even though all types of vehicles including heavy trucks ply through this route frequently.
It is an important road, especially for the people of Uripok Sinam Leikai and Bachaspati Leikai.
General commuters, who do not want to take the Nagamapal and Nityainanda roads, commute through this road.
The hardly 1 km long road stretch from Uripok Canteen traffic point to RIMS hospital gate is filled with numerous potholes including two large ones around 100 metres apart.
Most of the potholes along the road are at least 10 inches deep and front bumpers of cars often hit the edge of these potholes while plying through the road.
Road accidents have become a common occurrence here.
Most importantly, it is an important road for people requiring emergency medical attention as it leads to RIMS and Shija Hospitals.
Even though ministers and VIPs are aware of the condition of the road as they frequently use the same route, no steps have been taken up for improving the condition of the road so far.
Expressing concern over the situation, different sections of the public have urged the government to repair the road at the earliest.
