Homage paid to Neloni Mao

Sepoy Neloni Mao of 1st AR, who hailed from Pudunamei Village near Mao Gate in Senapati district, attained martyrdom on Dec 15 while braving the glaciated terrain of Siachen in J&K.According to a statement issued by PIB (DW), along with six other comrades, Neloni Mao had fallen to a fatal avalanche while guarding the Northern Borders in Siachen, the highest battle field of the world.
They were performing duties at an altitude above 15000 ft when the unfortunate incident occurred.
The mortal remains of the brave soldier were flown from Jammu & Kashmir to Imphal Airport.
As per the traditions of the Indian Army the ceremonial reception was given to the brave soldier and the body was moved under military escort along with the family members.
Later on, last rites were performed in his native village Pudunamei with full military honour.
Funeral service of Sep Neloni Mao was held at Pudunamei Village (Mao Gate) today at 11 am.
The Red Shield Division also paid homage to their departing comrade as a mark of reverence in unison with the bereaved family.
The statement further said that to support the family in the times to come, the army has numerous measures in place.
The medical and Canteen facilities, applicable to the family will continue, dependents of the brave combatant will receive a family pension to help them endure and afford the demands of daily life.
Similarly, there is other financial assistance that will be provided to the dependents of the combatant.
Meanwhile, Maj Gen KK Sinha, SM, GOC Red Shield Division has expressed condolence and assured all support to the family members.
