Imphal, September 19 2021:
Keishamthong AC National People's Party (NPP) MLA L Jayantakumar has called upon all concerned to stop the trend of luring young voters with drugs and intoxicants.
The former health minister in the Biren-government made this clarion call while opening a party office at Keishamthong assembly constituency polling station number 12/7 - Keishampat Leimajam Leikai Maning on Sunday.
Addressing the gathering, Jayantakumar said that some election activities could be seen in other assembly constituencies as the election is still five to six months away.
However, in Keishamthong AC, there is high voltage poll related activities as if the election is just two weeks away.
There are reports of some intending candidates luring young voters with drugs and intoxicants leading to altercations and violence.
Stating that such trend of luring youth with drugs and intoxicants is an abominable trend as it would pull down the society as a whole, he called upon all concerned to refrain from indulging in such irresponsible activities.
Jayantakumar also observed that the main reason behind the intensified poll related activities in Keishamthong constituency is the race to grab the 6000-odd loyal voters of ex-MLA Laishom Ibomcha after his unfortunate demise.
The intending candidates in the constituency are trying their level best to rope in these voters on their sides by whatever means they could while taking advantage of the hardships being faced by the people due to Covid-19 pandemic.
While there is no wrong in trying to pull those voters into their circle, one should know that using irresponsible means cannot change the direction of the election, he said.
Jayantakumar further said that the new party office is not only for the election but it will also act as a window for the people of his constituency to submit documents or any suggestions to him and also to the IMC councillor of the constituency when they could not get the chance to meet in person.
NPP Youth Front state president and intending candidate of Khurai AC L Jayananda also attended the office inauguration function.
