Training course on "Climate change adaptation for natural resource management" held

A five day training course on "Climate Change Adaptation for Natural Resource Management" for Church leaders began today at Diocessan Social Services Society (DSSS), Mantripukhri.
The training course organized by Indian Institute of Forest Management (IIFM), Bhopal, Gol in collaboration with Manipur Forest Department, GoM was sponsored by Department of Science and Technology (DST), Ministry of Science and Technology, GoM.
IIFM, Bhopal Director Dr Pankaj Srivastava, Manipur Forest Department Additional PCCF Dr Lokho Puni and MBC secretary (peace and development) Karung Maram graced the inaugural function as the chief guest, president and guest of honor respectively.
Speaking at the function, Pankaj Srivastava underscored the need for humans to respect nature and usher in a social change to contain the impact on environment and climate change.
Pointing out that the dominating nature and selfish acts of human beings have led to severe environmental degeneration and climate change, he stressed on the need for taking every stakeholders and individuals on board in the effort to bring a social change.
He also mooted the idea of documenting the initiatives taken up by MBC and DSSS towards protecting environment in the State while observing that highlighting the initiatives taken up by faith based organizations in the State to other parts of the country and world will encourage many people in protecting environment.
Lokho Puni conveyed that the training course for the Church leaders was organized with the strong belief that engaging faith based communities and organizations in the effort to reduce the impact of environmental problem and climate change will have greater impact in the society.
He further informed that there are 29 Church associations under Manipur Baptist Church in the State and more than 1500 Churches which enroll more than 2.5 lakh people are under the said 29 Church associations.
More than 100 Church leaders are participating in the residential training programme which will conclude on February 22 .
