Equipments in RIMS need upgrading: Governor

Governor Dr Najma Heptulla has said that the equipment in RIMS need to be upgraded to that of AIIMS level.
Speaking at the 47th foundation day of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) today, the Governor expressed happiness at being a part of the foundation day of the premier institution which was established in 1972 jointly by the North Eastern Council and the Government of Manipur.
She conveyed that RIMS has been delivering quality medical services to all the North Eastern States, except Assam, and added that much more need to be done in terms of equipment and infrastructure.
The Governor applauded the institute fpr not only catering health care but also for producing good medical students in under graduates and post graduate courses.
More than three thousand students have graduated from this institute and a Nursing College was also set up in 2009.Super speciality courses in Urology and Plastic Surgery have been started, she added.
The Governor further said that she has already informed the Union Minister of Health about the problems faced by RIMS and added that she has requested for upgrading and developing the infrastructure of the institute.
The Governor was also felicitated on being conferred the Outstanding Parliamentarian Award, 2018, at the foundation day celebration.
During the celebration, the meritorious students of post graduate, BDS course, were felicitated with medals and citations.
Dr A Santa Singh, Director, RIMS said that a helicopter will be stationed at RIMS and it will be utilized to cater to the needs of the patients in far flung areas of the State.
He also said that the cost of CT Scan, MRI, X- Ray have been reduced.
The foundation day was attended by Dr K Mani Singh, former Additional Professor of Surgery, RIMS and Dr RK Sanajaoba Singh, former Sr Registrar of Anaesthesiology, RIMS attended as the guests of honour along with award donors, faculty, staff and students of the institute.
