Imphal, February 12 2015 :
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam on Thursday informed that an investigation has been launched on the Khudengtabi incident involving RD and PR minister Francis Ngajokpa and MLA D Korungthang when their convoy was halted and the legislators detained by AR personnel.
Gaikhangam also promised punitive actions if evidences of misconduct are found.
He added that an official intimation had been sent to the paramilitary to furnish a report on the incident.
Speaking on the sideline of a cultural event in Imphal, Gaikhangam stated that Ngajokpa conveyed the details of the incident to him from the spot and after a series of communication with authorities concerned, the minister and his team were immediately allowed to proceed towards Moreh without further hassles.
Dishonoring the national flag is a very unfortunate thing and a written protest had been lodged with the Principal Secretary of Home, he stated.
However, the Deputy Chief Minister suggested that convoy carrying ministers or MLAs should stick to the practiced norms during movement over long distances.
They should have clear knowledge about the exact numbers of vehicles and persons travelling with them and ideally the escort vehicles should lead the convoy and move together, he stated.
Chief Minister O Ibobi had been apprised of the details of the incident and appropriate steps are being contemplated, he stated.
No decision had been taken yet as an investigation is in progress and the report from the paramilitary is awaited, said Gaikhangam.
The Deputy Chief Minister dismissed any indication of partisan behavior by the AR personnel on communal ground.
