Imphal, May 11 2023:
Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur (PLMPAM) and All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA) have said that the unrest seen in Manipur is a consequence of outburst of emotion activated by demands being raised by different communities which are exclusive to their respective interest.
They said that the fallout of the feud was widespread leading to killing, vandalisa-tion and other forms of violence and it was regrettable.
Addressing a press conference at Khuyathong today, Poirei Leimarol president L Memchoubi said that the responsibility for the conflict must be fixed to the Manipur Government as they didn't take any preventive measures in advance to control the law and order situation.
Why didn't the Government stop the Tribal Solidarity March of All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur, she asked.
Saying that the sequence of violence which struck Manipur could have been prevented had the security forces controlled the rallyists coming from Churachandpur side on May 3 before attacking their neighbouring villages, Memchoubi claimed that the conflict among sections of people was a consequence of deep rooted conspiracy.
Memchoubi then urged the Government to make the cadres of militant groups under Suspension of Operation stay at their respective designated camps and use all available means to recover the arms and ammunition looted from gun houses and police stations to prevent further hostilities.
She further said that all stakeholders concerned must work together to prevent the innocent civilians from being used by people with vested interest to carry out their secret plan which is detrimental to the Manipur society.
Memchoubi urged the Government to provide adequate compensation to the victims of the violence and extend assistance in building houses of those who have been made homeless.
Claiming that drug mafia
in Manipur seems to be taking part in electoral politics and they use all their power to hinder the Government from cracking down on illicit drug business, Memchoubi alleged that some sections of people take the destruction of poppy plantations and busting of drug business as a challenge to them.
Asking if the Assam Rifles is assisting the cadres of militant groups under Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact to worsen the law and order situation, Memchoubi asked the Government to withdraw the paramilitary force from Manipur or at least don't use them to control the law and order situations.
She appealed to all the people to be wary of AR .
