Khamasom Walely declared 'Honey Bee village'

Khamasom Walely village was declared as "Honey Bee village" on March 5 by Dr RK Ranjan, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha, Inner Manipur); Joseph Pauline Kamson, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul and Mayanglambam Khelendro, vice president, The Apunba Imagi Machasing (AIMS), Manipur during a programme organised by ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region Manipur Centre (KVK-Ukhrul); The Apunba Imagi Machasing (AIMS), Manipur and Khamasom Walely Village Authority, Ukhrul.
The inaugural address were delivered by K Vareiyo, Principal, Yang Academy, Khamasom Walely; Dr Atom Sunil Singh, Director, AIMS, Manipur; Professor N Mohilal Meitei, Head, Department of Zoology, Manipur University and Dr Chingakham Brajakishor, Scientist-D, Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Imphal.
Addressing the programme, Dr Solei Luram, Head, KVK Ukhrul, highlighted the reasons for declaring Khamasom Walely village as a 'Honey Bee Village'.
The village is the centre of seven cluster villages, namely Khamasom Khayangkho, Khamasom Phungdhar, Khamasom Phungrei in the North; Sihai Khullen, Sihai Khunou and Sihai Kahaophung in the South.
Dr RK Ranjan stated that the establishment of a National Honey Bee Research Institute would pave the way in revolutionizing the economy of the village from subsistence to sustainable farming.
Worthing Horam, general secretary, Manipur State Unit, Naga People's Front (NPF) and Phillips A Soso, Social Worker, Khamasom Phungdhar also attended the programme.
Later, a mass plantation and awareness programme of 'Yongchak' at Khamasom Phungrei and cane and bamboo at Khamasom Phungdhar was also held.
