Don't go at rhetorics alone: MPCC chief

Imphal, January 10 2015 : MPCC president and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam has called upon all the electorates not to take impressive speeches and rhetorics as the sole criteria for an elected representative's capability.

Rather people should choose candidates who are hard-working, bold, sincere and dedicated to the common cause of the State.

Speaking as chief guest at the 42nd foundation day of the Youth Welfare Association, Wangoi Makha Leikai today, Gaikhangam stated that all electorates should always be on guard against people who are good in preaching only.

People of Wangoi have unity as well as integrity but their conscience seemed to go astray at the time of election.

To send a man who has been working relentlessly for public causes to 'exile' for 25 years is sheer injustice.

There is no dearth of supporters for the particular man.

What he lacks is materials, Gaikha-ngam said without naming the particular man.

"When he can do so much for public welfare even though he lost the Assembly elections repeatedly, just imagine how much he can do for the people if he is elected", the MPCC chief called upon the gathering.

The repeated defeat of such a man is a huge loss for the people of Wangoi A/C .

The fresh order to keep Wangoi CHC under the State Health Services after annulling the earlier notification to bring the CHC under JNIMS is a fruit of MPCC vice-president S Achouba.

The fresh order was issued under immense pressure exerted by Achouba, the Depu- ty Chief Minister declared.

Gaikhangam further asserted that all development programmes should be started from grassroots level.

Progressive blocks/colonies/villages or Leikais are one prerequisite for a progressive State.

Restoration of peace and harmony should be started at the level of Leikais.

No force on earth can disintegrate Manipur when there is unity and harmony among different communities of the State, Gaikhangam stated.

Calling upon the gathering to keep Ngakhong canal neat and clean, Gaikhangam assured that he would consult the relevant Minister to construct retaining walls on either side of the canal.

The Deputy Chief Minister said he was taken by surprise when he learnt that people of Wangoi Makha Leikai do not have access to potable water even though there is one elected representative of Wangoi A/C .

He assured that necessary steps would be initiated in consultation with the relevant Minister to provide water pipes to Wangoi Makha Leikai.

MPCC vice-president and the Khadi and Village Industries Board (KVIB) vice-chairman S Achouba called upon the gathering to work collectively so as to ensure that all polling stations of Wangoi A/C are developed uniformly.

Later, the Deputy Chief Minister was accorded a warm reception at Wangoi Kabui village.

There Gaikhangam expressed satisfaction on seeing that Wangoi Kabui village has been living in complete harmony with the surrounding villages.
