Imphal, February 09 2018:
Revenue Minister Karam Shyam has stated that he would consult the Chief Minister as well as Cabinet colleagues before taking a final decision on the location of Kakching district headquarters.
Replying to a call attention motion raised by K Ranjit in the State Assembly today, Karam Shyam said that the issue of Kakching district headquarters is a very sensitive public issue and he alone cannot take the final decision.
Informing the House that the Kakching District Demand Committee has been demanding development of Waikhong Thongjao as the headquarters of Kakching district, the Revenue Minister said that there are strong pressures from different quarters.
There is no such thing as BJP or Congress on the issue.
Categorically stating that whatever decision adopted by the Government on the issue of Kakching district headquarters would be in the interest of the people, Shyam appealed to all the people to accept the Government's decision.
Informing that Rs 19 crore has been incorporated in the budget for development of infrastructure for the seven districts created anew, he appealed to all concerned to wait for sometime.
Out of the seven districts created by the previous Government, the same Government inaugurated five districts but Kamjong and Kakching districts were left.
It looked like there were certain problems in the two districts, Shyam said.
After renaming the Kakching SDO office, it is being run as the DC office.
The office has not been shifted anywhere else.
There are two SDO offices namely; Kakching SDO Office and Waikhong SDO Office.
There are also four SDC Circles viz; Kakching, Hiyanglam, Waikhong and Sugnu, Shyam said.
Earlier raising the call attention motion, K Ranjit asked the Government to take a decision on the floor of the House to develop Waikhong Thongjao as Kakching district headquarters as it is located at the centre of the four Assembly segments which constitute Kakching district.
Pointing out that the Kakching DC has already recommended Waikhong Thongjao as the headquarters of Kakching district where there are adequate Government lands, Ranjit appealed to all concerned not to politicise the issue.
He further asserted that development of Kakching district headquarters at Waikhong Thongjao would not affect agricultural lands.
