Imphal, February 09 2014:
The medical officers of Moreh have shown new hopes to the people living in remotest villages of the State along the Indo-Myanmar border, where there is hardly any sign of existence of a government to look after the developmental needs of the people.
Under the supervision of Immunization Officer, Moreh Dr S Priyokumar, a team of medical officers and staffs comprising MO in-charge of Moreh PHC Dr Kh Shantikumar, MO of Moreh Hospital Dr Tomthil, staffs of Chief Medical Officer, Chandel and Director of Smart Society, Moreh Branch conducted a four-day free medical camp from February 5 to 8 at 12 villages under Khengjoy and Yangoulen sub-centres in Chandel district.
The medical team had to walk several kilometres in order to reach those remote villages, but they successfully conducted the medical camp against all odds.
The team first conducted the medical camp for two days at six villages under Khengjoy sub-centre, namely Khengjoy, Walou, Lhangpikot, Molkol, Moldeno and Songdok.
The sub-centre is located at about 104 kilometres from Tengnoupal Police Station.
The team then continued to conduct the camp for another two days at Yangoulen sub-centre, which is again located at about 32 kilometres from Khengjoy sub-centre.
The six villages under Yangoulen sub-centre are Yangoulen, Tuivang, Khengjang, Bongmol, Tuitung and Molcham.
As many as 532 villagers from 12 villages were treated and given medicines free of cost during the four-day medical camp.
Moreover, 122 children and 48 pregnant women were also vaccinated during the camp.
The villagers expressed heartfelt gratitude to the medical team.
They could avail such healthcare service after a gap of about two years.
Immunization Officer Dr S Priyokumar also inaugurated a Guest House at Khengjang Village under Yangoulen sub-centre.
Dr Kh Shantikumar thanked the chieftains of the villages, ASHA workers and officers of 6th Dogra Regiment who have rendered valuable assistances to conduct the medical camp successfully.
