Pointing out that grooming human resource solely with western form of education in the State for prolong years has resulted to the ignorance of aged Manipuri cultures and ancient folklores of great values, Manipur University retired Professor W Nabakumar has called for imparting the values of rich Manipuri culture to the present generation.
Speaking as the guest of honour in the inaugural function of the one-day seminar on "Meitei/Meetei gi Yelhoungeidagi Chatnarakpa Senmit amadi Senpa-thumpa gi Kanglon" which was organized today at Youth Hostel, Kuman Lampak, Imphal by Yelhou Mee Thoupei, the retired Professor observed that there is an urgent need for exploring the socio-economy perspectives and other values intrinsic to the Manipuri cultures in the society.
He opined that a society needs upholding good old values of its cultures and traditions although some need to be changed in the run to adapt to the trend of rapid globalization going on.
He said the western systems of education which is being employed, perhaps from the time of British colonial age, is concerning.
"Manipuri - culture and folklores carry great values.
The aged tradition of passing down these great values has lost somewhere," he said.
Delivering presidential speech at the function, Yelhou Mee Thoupei president Hijam Dinesh noted that the fading away of the rich Manipuri cultures and traditions has led to development of a 'dependency culture' in the Manipuri society.
He added that the society must imbibe its cultural heritage and traditions by exploring its rich values, philosophy and ideas.
The function was graced by Sana Konung Angom Ningthou Angqm Amubi as the chief guest.
In the technical session of the seminar, Chakpa Pehiyeng Khulakpa Ningthoujam Toyai and Tongbram Shyamkishore presented papers on the topics "Kei lingba amasung senmit pukei (Marup, Singlup) and "Pat chaba/soi chaba" respectively.
