Imphal, July 08 2017:
Many people in Lilong AC are still reeling under immense hardship due to flood after a portion ofImphal river bank breached near Haoreibi Awang Leikai.
Speaking to media persons, secretary of Haoreibi Awang Leikai Athletic Cultural Youth Organisation (HALACYO) Md Islamuddin said that many areas are still flooded even though the damaged river bank has been repaired.
He said that diseases may be spread in the flooded areas after the flood water mixed with polluted particles recedes.
He claimed that enough relief materials have not been provided to the locals.
It took three/four days to repair the river bank that breached on July 2, he added.
On the other, Haoreibi Awang Leikai Flood and Relief Committee in a press release clarified that the committee has still not received an amount of Rs 5 lakh reportedly donated by the Lilong AC MLA.
It said that DC Thoubal and several civil society organisations including UCM had provided relief materials to the flood-hit locals.
On the other hand, due to the torrential rain in the past few days, the conditions of Imphal-Jiribam road and Imphal-Tamenglong road have deteriorated with minor landslides reported from many places.
The culverts too are filled with silts and water making vehicular movement extremely dangerous.
