State natural resources belong to people, orgs denounce oil exploration

Jiribam, June 08 2018:
People of Jiribam and representatives of various civil society organisations on Friday denounced exploration of natural resource (oil) in the State by non-State companies and reiterated that the natural resources of the State belong to the people of the State.
The stand - "No to oil exploration in Manipur' was taken at a public meeting held at Hill Ghat Community Hall in Jiribam organised by the Protection and Preservation Committee Manipur (PPCM), Committee on Protection of Natural Resource in Manipur (CPNRM) and Jiri United Committee (JUC) .
Speakers at the meeting pointed out the negative impacts of oil exploration on the environment and on the local people.
People at the meeting and representatives of the various civil society organisations asserted that the natural resources belong to the people of the State.
Convenor of CPNRM John Pamei, chairman of Committee on Human Right (COHR) Phulindro Konsam, former member CPNRM, convenor PPCM Nongthombam Bimol, chairman JUC Matum Maipaksana Singh attended the meeting as resource persons.
Finance secretary of All Jiribam United Club Association (AJUCA) Y Romen Singh gave keynote address and spoke about the importance of the meeting.
Companies such as Oil India Limited, Asian Oilfield, Jubilant Oil & Gas Private Limited have been exploring oil in the State.
