Drug dealer gets 10 yrs RI

A drug smuggler, who was caught with 100 kg of marijuana by a team of the Narcotic Affairs Border (NAB) on August 5, 2002, has been sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment by the Special Court of Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic Substances here today.
The convicted drug dealer is one Md Riyajuddin (33) of Jirighat Badigar under Cachar district of Assam but presently staying in a rented house at Hafiz Hatta, Minuthong.
The order of sentencing him to 10 years rigorous imprisonment was passed by the Special Court of Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic Substances under section 20 (B) (ii) of NDPS Act,1985.Along with that, the convict has to pay a fine of Rs 1 lakh, failing which his imprisonment would be extended by another 2 months.
As the convict has been an Under Trial (UT) Prisoner for 28 days, his number of days in jail would be adjusted according to his days in jail prior to the sentenced hearing.
It may be mentioned that Md Riyajuddin was caught by a team of Narcotic Affairs Border (NAB) on August 5, 2002 along with 100 kg of marijuana from his rented house in Hafiz Hatta, Minuthong.
The drugs were found wrapped in three different bags.
Two of the bags contained 40 kg of marijuana each while the third bag contained 20 kg of marijuana.
