ADC teachers demand pending salaries

The All Manipur District Council Teachers Association has threatened to launch intense agitation if the State Government fails to fulfil its demands by February 10 .
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, the association's general secretary Letkhohao Lhouvum said that the teachers of six ADCs have not been getting their salaries from the month of October last year.
He claimed that the authorities concerned have failed to provide the pending salaries of the teachers citing shortage of funds.
Letkhohao Lhouvum further explained that a Government teacher usually gets a salary ranging between Rs 9300 and Rs 34,800 but the ADC teachers only use to get between Rs 5200 and Rs 20,800 as salaries.
The general secretary informed that although pension schemes for district council employees were announced in 2006 and a gazette notification was issued in this regard as well, no forms of pension have been provided till date, even though than 700 employees have retired.
He further said that the employees and the association will take up numerous forms of agitation including economic blockade and shutting down of Government offices, if the State Government fails to take up necessary action by February 10 .
