Kangpokpi, December 03 2015:
The indefinite economic blockade called by Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) of Sadar Hills along the Trans Asian Highway No.1 over its deplorable condition began Wednesday midnight.
The CSOs comprising of Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills, KSO Sadar Hills, TSA Sadar Hills, KWU Sadar Hills and other bodies have been demanding the immediate implementation of the highway repair work by the responsible contractor and the department.
No commodity or goods carriers plied along the Trans Asian Highway No.1 on Thursday.
CSOs Sadar Hills Spokesperson Lamcha Chongloi stated that till now the Government has not responded to the demands made.
"We have decided to enforce the ongoing blockade till our demands are fulfilled satisfactorily", said Chongloi.
"We have also decided to impose total bandh within Sadar Hills if the repair work is not executed within one week's time", Chongloi warned.
He also said that the CSOs are mulling of filing a suit against the contractor if necessary.
He also urged the transporters to respect the blockade call and abstain from any act and attempt to go against the blockade call as the transporters are the worst victims of the bad road condition of the highway.
