Girl found dead with throat slit identified

Jiribam, October 03 2012:
The identity of the young woman who was found dead with her throat slit at a spot near hillock locally known as Lai Lam Thokpham Ching of Sekmai Ningthou and Nongpok Ningthou under Tengnoupal Police Station in Chandel district yesterday has been established today.
She was Kh.
Catherine alias Shangtoi (15) d/o Kh.
Simon Lamkang and Kh.
Mary Lamkang of New Lamkang village of Chandel district.
She was studying in class X at St.
Paul High School, Liwachangning in Chandel district.
It is suspected that Catherine may have been raped before slitting her throat and leaving there to die.
Catherine was found dead lying in a pool of blood by some children who went to the hillock in search of mushrooms.
According to family members, Catherine was staying along with her sister in a rented house belonging to one DP Daniel.
The rented house is located near St.
Paul High School.
Catherine was missing since she left the rented house at around 3 pm on October 1 .

Meanwhile, a Joint Action Committee (JAC) christened as JAC Against the Brutal Killing of Catherine has been formed.
Crying for justice, the JAC has demanded the state government to book the killer and made it clear that it would not accept the body which is lying in the mortuary of JNIMS until the demand is met.
Along with the JAC, Naga Women Organisation, Chandel; All Tribal Women Organisation, Chandel and Chingtam Nupi Lup staged a mass sit-in-protest at Chandel Lamkhai, Pallel.
A similar protest demonstration was also staged by staffs and students of St.
Paul High School in front of their school today.
On the other hand, another young woman studying in class XI in Vision Creative Science, Thoubal Okram was reportedly found dead hanging herself with the help of a rope from the beam of their outhouse at Salungpham Kangymbam Mayai Leikai under Thoubal Police Station at around 6.30 pm yesterday.
The deceased has been identified as Sinam Sonia (16) d/o Sinam Ingocha of Kangyambam Mayai Leikai.
Suspecting some possible foul play behind the incident, the family members informed that there was no incident of quarrel in the family.
The post-mortem of the body was conducted today under video coverage in the presence of the district magistrate.
