Imphal, February 03, 2011:
Normal official works in government offices in the three hill districts of Chandel, Ukhrul and Churachandpur were disturbed as the All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) started to close offices as part of its stir pressing the government to fulfill their demands.
ATSUM announced the launching of closure of government offices in the five hill districts to fulfill their demands which includes revocation of Cabinet decision of deputing senior MCS officers as Executive Directors of DRDA among others.
ATSUM is also protesting against non accomplishment of reservation rules of the Manipur Reservation (for SC and ST) Act, 2007, introduction of the new academic calendar, recruitment of SOs in MSRRDA and delay in the infrastructure development of the Indira Gandhi Tribal University campus.
ATSUM launched the agitation as the government failed to translate into work their demands even after the February 1 deadline set by them expired.
The closure of government offices is yet to affect government offices in Tamenglong and Senapati districts.
