'Around 100 children vaccinated everyday'

The State Health and Family Welfare Department office at BT Road continuing the immunisation programme, vaccinated around 100 children in a day, everyday even during this pandemic.
Speaking to Sangai Express, Directorate of Health & Family Welfare State Nodal Officer Immunization Dr Thoudam Nandakishore said under the National Immunisation Schedule (NIS) of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the State Health & Family Welfare Department administer vaccines to infants, children and pregnant women on yearly basis to keep them healthy.
The program now consists of vaccination for 12 diseases- tuberculosis, diphtheria, pertussis (whooping cough), tetanus, poliomyelitis, measles, hepatitis B, diarrhoea, Japanese encephalitis, rubella, pneumonia (haemophilus influenzae type B) and Pneumococcal diseases (pneumococcal pneumonia and meningitis) .
The Directorate of Health & Family Welfare head office at BT Road administer vaccines to around 100 children per day every day except on holidays, he said.
Three nurses Tamphasana, Guni and Nishi are still doing their duty of administering vaccines to infants, children and pregnant women carefully by taking all preventive measures from COVID-19 infection.
They wear masks, hand gloves, gown, caps, and sanitise their hands frequently.
People who came there for vaccination including the children were also made to wear masks compulsorily, use hand sanitizer and social distancing was maintained.
So far they have not faced a COVID infected person at their cell.
District Hospitals who work hand in hand with the Health and Family Welfare department, are also continuing with the administration of vaccines as it is compulsory to get vaccinated every year.
Even in containment zones, immunisation drives are conducted by considering an appropriate time.
The Health and Family Welfare cell at BT Road is open from 9.30 am to 3 pm for vaccination.
