National Nutrition Week

Community Food & Nutrition Extension Unit, Ministry of Women & Child Development, Govt of India in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare, Govt of Manipur has kicked off the National Nutrition Week observation.
The inaugural function was held today at State Bal Bhavan, Khuman Lampak and was graced by AK Mirabai, Minister, Social Welfare, Dr K Sobita Devi, Chairperson, Manipur State Women Commission, Imphal West, N Nabakishwar, Director, Department of Social Welfare and S Naba Singh, Deputy Secretary, Department of Social Welfare as presidium members.
A one dat State level workshop on the theme "Life cycle approach for better nutrition" was also held alongside the inaugural function.

Speaking at the event, Minister AK Mirabai said that efforts have been put into in order to make the observation different from the previous year.
This year's observation will primarily focus on how nutritious food should be consumed by women and children so as to get its maximum health benefits.
Minister AK Mirabai stated that people can consume locally grown or produced food without having to rely on food which are brought from outside.
Not only will it allow the people to have an easy access to nutritious food but also create awareness on the heath benefits of locally available produces.
Throughout the National Nutrition Week, the Department of Social Welfare will provide beneficial information on the importance of breastfeeding the infants and food that are nutritious during their growing stages.
The Department will also focus on how older people should be encouraged to consume nutritious food.
Women have a big role to play in order to execute these tasks.
Same applies to the employees of the Departmen of Social Welfare.
Collectively effort should be made in order to implement all the women and children schemes successfully, Minister AK Mirabai asserted.
