Imphal, July 31 2020:
Iramdam Kanba Apunba Lup (IKAL) has stated that they will do whatever it takes to save the youth of the State from the clutches of drugs.
A press release issued by IKAL said that the future of the State looks grim because many people want to become a millionaire overnight these days.
Almost all drug lords operating in the State are extremely rich and have a connection with people in power, it said adding that portion of the handsome profit that these men and women made from their lucrative, yet illegal business are again used to shut the voice of the people.
What can we expect from these people who won elections with money and muscle power, IKAL continued and added that politicians and drug lords are like the two sides of the same coin, especially in Manipur.
Recalling that drugs worth crores of rupees were seized from Imphal Airport and Pallel in 2013, the statement claimed that not a person involved in the two cases has been given the punishment they deserve.
It also claimed that releasing the owners of the tobacco products that were seized by local women on July 28, 2020 from Luwangshangbam on bail indicates that some syndicates are running their business freely in the State.
It also suggested that the intended purpose of the War on Drugs campaign of the State Government will not be produced as long as drug lords are given a free hand.
There is also evidence that a drugs manufacturing factory is already opened in the State, it said and added that IKAL will extend support in every effort made by organisations or Government to put an end to this mushrooming drug-related issues in the State.
The association also demanded the State Government to hand over the case involving former ADC Chandel, Chairman Lukhosei Zou to CBI at the earliest.
