Imphal, August 30 2011: A One Day State Level Consultative Workshop on Effective implementation on Protection of Women from DVA 2005 was held at Banquet hall, Hotel Nirmala today where various recommendations were resolved unanimously.

The function which was organized by Women Action for Development (WAD) was graced by I Hemochandra, Speaker, Manipur Legislative Assembly, Proff Ksh Bimola, Dept of Political Science, MU and Joychandra, Dep Dir, Social Welfare Dept as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.

The recommendations which were resolved in the consultative workshop were - awareness programme on Domestic violence Act 2005 and crime against women at large for concern officials of the Social welfare Dept, police and other stakeholders including the medical fraternity and general public is very much needed, appointment of Independent Protection Officer, trained counselor with proper infrastructures and budget, institution of toll free women helpline 24X7, publicise the list of Protection officers, service providers, shelter homes and notify medical facilities in govt hospitals, crime against women cell manned by women only should be should be open, enhance Appellant court, establishment of family courts in all districts, rehabilitation and economic empowerment for the survivors, State Legal service Authority should be activated physically in the remote areas, separate budget for Violence Against Women should be included in the 12th five year plan and increase the existence budget, institution of Legislative Forum on crime against women, creation of consolidated fund for Aggrieved persons, different counselors should be appointed, separate PO for Jiribam and Imphal east should be appointed and mobile court for Tamenglong, Chandel and Senapati for conducting cases of DV Act should be established .

Speaking on the occasion Speaker I Hemochandra said that instead of waiting for those committing crime against women to be punished, preventive measures should be taken up.

To prevent one from committing crime against women the person should be given awareness at the first place.
