Maibam Kunjaraj to resonate Rafi's songs

Maibam Kunjaraj, the prospective Manipuri modern singer, is among the 22 vocal artists selected across India to sing the songs of legendary Hindi film playback singer Mohammed Rafi to be telecast through the radio channel Vividh Bharati and Doordarshan Kendra in connection with the birth anniversary of the late singer.
Kunjaraj was made to sing Rafi's number "Oh Duniya Ke Rakhawale �" from the film 'Baiju Bhawra' and it was recorded on July 23 last.
The programme titled "Bhula Na Paoge" is scheduled to be telecast by Doordarshan from July 31 to August 7 daily between 8 pm and 8.30 pm, while the same will be aired on Vividh Bharati from 10 pm to 11 pm beginning August 7 .
Maibam Kunjaraj, who had hailed from a poor family at Tera Khamnam Leirak in Imphal was initiated to learn music at Government Music College by one of his aunts.
Kunjaraj has become a renowned singer in Goa, where he used to present Manipuri songs at various important musical events.
It may be recalled Kunjaraj had successfully taken part in various competitions of 'Indian Idol'.
Today, he has clinched a place of his own in numerous musical concerts in other Indian cities.
His selection for singing Rafi's songs was announced after a musical audition participated by 1240 competitors from across the country.
