MCPCR team visits immature baby born to minor rape victim at JNIMS

Following the strict instruction of Social Welfare Minister Nemcha Kipgen, a team of Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights visited an immature baby born to a minor rape victim from Senapati district at JNIMS Hospital, Imphal.
The three member MCPCR team including Ibomcha Ningthoujam, consultant and Ch Nabachandra Singh, member led by its Chairperson Sumatibala Ningthoujam visited the immature baby to inquire and take a suo moto case.
According to the report furnished by the visiting team, the minor rape victim gave birth to a baby girl yesterday at around 4.30 pm at Senapati District Hospital and later, the baby was shifted to JNIMS Hospital at around 3.30 am by Robin Raomai, manager, Special Adoption Agency, Senapati District.
The reports further said that the baby is presently at 3-NICU, JNIMS under Dr Mangi who said that the baby had been transported from Senapati under highly unfavourable circumstances.
She weighs only 1.6 Kg and is only 33 weeks old.
It further said that many crucial tests are yet to be accomplished and the concerned doctor does not like to comment on the baby's chance of survival as she is currently under close observation.
Dr Ranbir Singh, Superintendent of JNIMS Hospital, Imphal has assured the Chairperson, MCPCR to provide all the required medical helps
to the baby for her survival, it added.
While appreciating the cooperation of Dr Omita Thokchom, who received the MCPCR team at the NICU ward, JNIMS, Chairperson, MCPCR also called for a detailed report of the case from the Superintendent of' Police, Senapati district.
