Imphal, February 26 2015:
Based on the recent report of Hueiyen Lanpao on poor mobile service in the State, MLA of Thangmeiband A/C Khumukcham Joykishan raised a calling attention motion during the ongoing session of 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly on Thursday urging the State Government to look into the issue and ensure better mobile service in the State.
Drawing the attention of the House, MLA Joykishan said that the State's mobile service is in haywire.
The mobile technology is entering in its fifth generation (5G) and the present 4G technology has enabled lightning fast internet service in other parts of India, but even the basic voice call service is not up to the mark in the State.
The mobile consumers are complaining every now and then of losing money to the service providers due to such extremely poor service, he added.
Responding to the calling attention motion, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi said that the mobile service providers are under the control of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), but the State Government would look into the issue and urge them to provide better mobile service in the State.
He further said that a state-level committee headed by the Chief Secretary and district-level committees headed by the respective Deputy Commissioners have been formed to look after the quality of mobile service and coverage in the State.
He also informed that the State Government is planning to set up an IT Hub and an Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) in the State.
Ibobi also laid emphasis on augmenting power supply and harness more solar energy in order to boost the State's IT sector.
