Scribes sensitised on child safety

FXB India Suraksha organized a one day State level training and consultation program for media persons on child safety and human trafficking at Manipur Press Club, today.
The main objective of the programme was to train the media persons on the process of reporting cases of child exploitation and human trafficking in the State and to educate the media persons on the role of media under the various provisions laid out in POCSO and Juvenile Justice Act.
26 media persons representing both print and electronic media from different districts, including hills districts of Manipur, participated in the programme.
The programme was conducted as a part of project Mukti an anti human trafficking initiative to combat human trafficking and child sexual abuse in Manipur and implemented with the support of ECPAT Luxembourg since 2015 in Imphal and Ukhrul.
Rajkishore Singh, Chairperson, Child Welfare Committee, Imphal West and Keisam Pradip Kumar Singh, Member, Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights, attended the programme as the resource persons.
Khoinaijam Sunil Meitei, Project Officer, FXB India Suraksha, spoke about the implementation of project Mukti and how media persons play an important role in working together for the cause.
He said that the role of media is as important as any other service provider in preventing as well as combating human trafficking and child sexual abuse.
Rajkishore Singh discussed the role of stakeholders in ensuring the protection and safety of children.
His session focused on the various provisions under POCSO Act and Juvenile Justice Act.
Keisam Pradip Kumar Singh, discussed the newly passed Criminal Law Amendment Ordinance, 2018 which includes death penalty for offenders of rape where the victim is below the age of 12 years.
He also trained the participants on the various Dos and Don'ts on reporting of cases of child sexual abuse and human trafficking.
Towards the end a group discussion was held where the participants came up with various queries on reporting of cases.
