Imphal, May 23 2014 :
The growing public concern over the possibility of authority of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Porompat divesting the benefit of 'Hospital Free-Supply Items,' to the patients has revealed to be true.
During a chance visit to the hospital today, Hueiyen Lanpao caught the attention of a notice pasted on the wall of the hospital notifying the list of 'Hospital Free Supply items' supposedly made available to the patients.
It was not so much the notice issued and signed by the Medical Superintendent of JNIMS or the list of the free supply items which caught our attention, but the hand scribbling of the words, 'Mawa Loudey'(Hogwash) apparently written by an aggrieved patient party across the said notice.
Further investigation into the matter and interaction with a cross section of the patients who are currently undergoing treatment in the hospital led to the startling finding that 'Hospital Free Supply Items' exist only on the notice.
The Hospital Free-Supply Items notified as available at the hospital included 500 gm of Ab Cotton, Gauze Than, Bandage, Adhesive Plaster, Jelco (No.18, 20, 22 & 24) size, IV Set, BT Set, Dispovan Syringe ( 10, 5 & 2) and Surgical Gloves.
But the patients and their parties say a different thing.
"I've got only two free Jelcos during my stay at JNIMS since May 15.If the free-supply items are provided to patients, it will be a great help to them, especially during the time of operation," a woman patient admitted to the hospital for child delivery case told Hueiyen Lanpao.
In fact, this woman patient was the only patient who claimed to have received at least some free items from among the listed Hospital Free-Supply Items.
Most of the patients staying for CS delivery cases at the Gynecology Ward of the hospital complained that they did not get any free-supply items either during antenatal or post-natal periods.
They appealed to the authority concerned to ensure availability of the items to all patients so that they could at least cut a little amount from the huge medical expenditure they need to spend on undergoing treatment in the Government run hospital.
