'Govt committed to come up with mega tourism projects'

The government is committed to come up with mega projects of tourism taking due consideration of the vast potential the State have to become a hub of tourism, said Chief Minister O Ibobi.
The CM was attending a National Seminar on Tourism Development & Familiarization Trip of Manipur organized by Manipur Tourism Forum under the sponsorship of Tourism Department at Hotel Imphal, North AOC today.
Addressing the gathering as chief guest, Ibobi conceded that there is a need to improve transportation facilities, law & order situation and infrastructure in pursuance of the plan to develop tourism in the State, while adding that there are many places in the State which could be developed as hotspot tourist destinations.
Saying that many people of developed countries usually visit other eco-friendly countries after their retirement from jobs, the CM maintained that the State has got enough potential to become one of the favorite tourist destinations.
Holding seminars and discussion programmes in connection with development of tourism in the State is important.
The government would try to transform views and suggestions given by subject experts meant for developing tourism in the State during such programmes into actions, Ibobi said.
Asserting that land acquisition in and around Imphal Tulihal Airport was done in tandem with the acknowledgement of the airport as a full-fledged international airport; the CM said that Imphal Tulihal Airport would soon become an important airport given that one could travel to foreign Asian countries China, Thailand, Myanmar etc from the airport in less duration of time.
Gaur Kanjilal, Executive Director of Indian Association of Tour Operators who was present at the occasion as guest of honor said that the State of Manipur could be developed as an eco-friendly destination of tourist given its blessed natural scenic beauties and resources.
Besides its rich culture, the State is also a powerhouse of sports.
Many players from the State have brought laurels to the country which is commendable, he acknowledged.
Today's seminar was also attended by Dr Th Dhabali, president of Manipur Tourism Forum and Parliamentary Secretary (Tourism), M Prithviraj as president and guest of honor respectively.
A technical session was also conducted during the seminar during which several resource persons spoke on relevant topics.
