MHJU condemns assault of reporter

The Manipur Hill Journalists' Union has strongly condemned the assault of the reporter of a vernacular daily, The Lamka Post between Lailamveng and Khumujumba junction on October 19 at about 9.30 pm while he was returning home.
The reporter was administered several stiches on Monday as he was attacked by some unidentified men while he was heading home around drawing severe criticisms from the journalist fraternity here.
The reporter, Manggoulian Ngaihte said he was at first halted by three men but after he identified himself and told them that he was heading home, they allowed him to move on.
However moments later he was asked to stop again and when he did several group of men believed to be around 15 in number attacked him, requiring him to receive medical attention and was administered several stiches on his face.
The reporter also claimed that his attackers had identified themselves as cadres of an armed group.
People in the locality said the area had been frequented by people who were seen drinking deep into the night.
