As State may soon enforce amended MV Act, number of applications for driving license increases

As State may soon implement the amended Motor Vehicle (MV) Act, there has been an increased in the number of applicants for driving license.
In twenty days, as many as 2,220 applications for procuring learner's license were received by the Imphal East Transport Office at Khuman Lampak ISBT Complex, said official.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, Simon Keishing, Imphal East District Transport Officer said 502 applicants were provided driving license between September 1 to 20.And in the same period, as many as 2,220 applications for learner's license were received by the office, he said adding that there has been an increased in the number of applications received.
He identified hefty fines under the amended MV Act and awareness on road safety as reasons for the increased in the number of applications for driving license.
Notably, the amended MV Act has been implemented in various States.
State traffic and police have recently stepped up its awareness programmes and drives for road safety.
Advising people to drive safely and follow all traffic rules, he said that procuring driving license requires applicants to submit Aadhaar card, Blood group, Class X/DoB certificates, etc.
Learner's license is given to persons who are qualified and have proper knowledge of traffic rules and safety.
After procuring learner's license, applicants should apply for driving license (smart card) before the end of 6 months validity, he said.
According to the Transport Officer, charges for procuring driving license are as follows:
2 wheeler (without gear) - Rs 200,
2 wheeler (gear) - Rs 200,
2 wheeler (without gear) + 2 wheeler (gear) - Rs 350,
Light motor vehicle (four wheeler) - Rs 500 .
