All should develop Meetei Mayek, says Dhanakumar

Meetei Mayek, the indigenous script which was once on the verge of extinction, has been revived to a certain extent today and if the script is to be further developed, we all need to come together and put in a joint effort, Potshangbam Dhanakumar, Chairman of Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BSEM) has exhorted.
He was speaking as Chief Guest of the closing function of the 10-day long training course on Meetei Mayek organized by MEELAL at Jina Hall in North AOC here today.
Dhanakumar went on to say that in today's age of Information Technology, it is indeed a tough job for a particular language and script to make itself stand out.

So, the role being played MEELAL to protect and promote Meetei Mayek is praiseworthy.
But we should remember that only MEELAL alone cannot develop Meetei Mayek to the maximum.
We all need to come together and help in the process.
He informed that from next year on, the subject of Elective English will be removed from the syllabus of Class X under BSEM and Elementary Manipuri will be made compulsory.
Dr Hamom Nabachandra, Secretary of Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur, who was also present on the occasion as one of the Guests of Honour, disclosed that till yesterday, around 6400 forms of TET for Meetei Mayek have been issued.
Interestingly, the first candidate to come and get TET form for Meetei Mayek was a woman from the hill district of Manipur.
Dr Nabachandra explained that there would be altogether 130 marks in the TET for Meetei Mayek, out of which 30 marks for General Knowledge and the remaining marks would be for essay type questions based on the syllabus of MIL Manipuri of class XII .
Presided over by S Tomba, President, MEELAL, the function was also attended by Mutum Churamani, President of HERICOUN as one of the Guests of Honour.
