Home Guards to continue agitation

The Manipur Home Guard Employees Welfare Association, Imphal, has threatened to continue their protest and agitation unless the authority concerned provides the 90 percent share sanctioned by the Central Government .
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, the general secretary of the association, Kh Inaobi Devi, said that it has been two months since the association began its protest demanding the authority concerned to implement the Supreme Court and the High Court of Manipur order to increase the duty allowance of the Home Guards .
She pointed out that the association first met with the Deputy CM on August 14 regarding the issue .
Yesterday, the representatives of the association met the Chief Minister and the CM assured to increase the duty allowance of the Home Guards by Rs 2000 from the initial Rs 5000 taking into account the unfavourable financial condition of the State .
She said that a meeting was held at the Home Guards HQ to discuss the terms .
She pointed out that the meeting resolved to pressure the State Government to provide the 90 percent share of the Home Guards’ allowance which will be borne by the Central Government .
A memo has been submitted regarding the same.
The association cannot agree to the terms as put forward by the State Government and will continue its protest further until and unless the Central share is provided to the Home Guards, she added.
