Imphal, December 18 2019:
While extending solidarity to all the family members of those who died protesting against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) 2019 across the country, Manipuri Muslim Online Forum (MMOF) has asserted that the forum will endorse all the protest demonstrations staged against the Act.
A press release issued by the MMOF said that CAB, which got President assent recently, violates the 'Right to Equality'.
Stating that granting citizenship on the groud of religion is also against the secular principle of the Indian Constitution, it asserted that the Act is a threat to the interest of all the minorities of the country.
"Why is the Government considering granting of Indian citizenship to undocumented migrants from three neighbouring countries when they could not even provide food security, proper education and socio-economy security to its fellow citizen", it questioned.
If CAA aims at providing citizenship to people who suffered persecution in foreign countries, why are the Rohingyas of Myanmar not covered by the Act, MMOF asked urging the Centre to withdraw the contentious Act at the earliest.
