Many oppose proposed market complex at Hatta

Local residents, youths, students of Hafiz Hatta, Itakhola, Manaingkhola and members of the Minuthong Hatta Social Welfare Union, Imphal today strongly objected to aproposed market complex at Hatta area.
An emergency public meeting held at Hatta unanimously decided to opposed the proposed market complex.
The proposed market complex will be constructed by the Department of Minority Affairs, Government of Manipur under Prime Minister Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK) with a project cost of Rs 5 crore.
The public and the many organisations who attended the meeting today alleged that there is no suitable land available at Hatta area for the proposed market complex.
The Hatta area is already sur rounded by many market complexes, which includes North AOC, Chingmeirong Khongnang Ani Karak, New Checkon Bazar and Tribal Market at New Lambulane among others, they said.
There is no need of constructing a separate market complex in Hatta area as the buildings along the Hatta-New Checkon State Highway numbering about 200 have already been developed as shopping complexes by the respective land owners, they said and added Hatta is one of the busiest and crowded market in Imphal East district.
The proposed market complex will also increase traffic in the area, they said adding that the road from Minuthong Bridge leading to JNIMS, Porompat and tri-junction of Hatta-New Checkon, Hatta-Lamlong, Hatta-Porompat JNIMS road have heavy traffic in peak hours daily.
Hatta though a minority Muslim pocket is relatively a developed area of Imphal City under Ward number 22 having all the required infrastructures viz, road, electricity, water supply, markets etc.
The meeting demanded that no proposal for construction of the market complex at Hatta area be approved by the Government in view of the reasons cited by them.
The meeting proposed that the fund earmarked be used in 'underdeveloped minority Muslim areas of Imphal East-II Block where basic amenities of are needed' .
