Imphal, September 14 2018:
Popular Front of India, Manipur State has strongly condemned the lynching of Md Farooque Khan alias Furkan (26) by a mob in the wee hours of September 13, at Tharoijam Awang Leikai, Imphal West district under Patsoi Police Station.
Md Farooque Khan doesn't have any criminal records and has been leading a simple life by running a cafe after completing MBA from Bangalore, PFI Manipur said in a statement today.
"Lynching of such person on mere suspicion of robbery is unfortunate," it said.
It also alleged that during the incident, the police personnel, who were on the spot, stood there and did nothing to stop the enraged mob.
State Government and authorities concerned must take up strong actions against the persons and police personnel involved in the lynching and give befitting punishment according to law, said PFI.
"It is not the first time that such tragedy has happened in the State.
Minority Muslims received the maximum effects of such communal hatred," it said and alleged that the State Govt has "never delivered justice" to the victims of such cases.
PFI strongly condemned the lynching and demanded the State Govt to enquire into the killing of Md Farooque and give befitting punishments to the culprits involved, PFI will fully support agitations by JAC Against Killing of Md Farooque if the State Govt fail to punish the culprits as per law of the land, said PFI's statement.
All Manipur Muslim (Meitei Pangal) Welfare Association (AMPWA) too condemned the killing today and demanded stringent punishment to culprits involved in the heinous crime.
It also demanded exemplary punishment to the policemen who witnessed the crime without any intervention.
It extended its condolence to the bereaved family members.
