Kangpokpi CSOs burn drugs worth Rs 2.5 crore

The Kuki National Front's Department of Narcotic Cell seized drugs worth approximately Rs 2.5 crore in Kangpokpi district and handed over to the Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi district and CSOs which later burnt the drugs yesterday at Saparmeina before public.
The seized drugs includes WY tablets, Heroin (No 4) and Brown Sugar.
Speaking to media persons, Lamminlun Singsit, general secretary, Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi district said that considering the alarmingly growing drug trafficking, drug abuse and crimes related with drug among the youths in Kangpokpi district since the past few years, the civil society organizations have been fighting hard to control and curb unwanted activities in the district.

He continued that the Kuki National Front (KNF) who came forward in fighting the growing drug abuse, trafficking and crimes in its operational area had recently seized several drugs including WY tablets, No 4 and Brown Sugar in Kangpokpi district worth approximately Rs 2.5 crore and handed over to Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi district and CSOs.
"We decided to burn down the seized items handed over to us in presence of the general public and media with an aim to spread awareness of the negative impact of drugs abuse, trafficking and crimes in the district," he said.
The Kuki Inpi and CSOs Kangpokpi also highly appreciate the initiative of the Kuki National Front to fight alarmingly growing drug abuse, trafficking and crimes especially among the youths in Kangpokpi district, he added.
He appealed people of Kangpokpi to cooperate in all movements to eradicate drugs related abuse, trafficking and crimes in the district.
The Kuki National Front, an entity of the Tripartite Talks with the Government of India and Government of Manipur under the umbrella United People's Front (UPF) had instituted a new department within the organization to combat the fast growing drug trafficking, drug abuse and crimes related with drugs in the larger interest and welfare of the people in February this year.
The newly institute department was christened Department of Narcotic Cell headed by a Director who has been assigned and given the responsibility to carry out comprehensive drug and crime control strategies to fight drug trafficking, drugs abuse and crimes within its operational area.
After the establishment of Department of Narcotic Cell, the outfit in a meeting banned all substances which fall under Narcotic with immediate effects in Kangpokpi district while initiating strict vigilance on drug trafficking, drug abuse and crimes following the stringent enforcement of the restriction.
The new department had also said that appropriately helpful and thoughtful action will be initiated for long lasting solution and crime free environment in the district.
