UNC suspends economic blockade

As a reciprocal gesture to the positive steps and measures taken up by the Government of India to protect the land, culture, history, identity, time honoured traditional
institutions etc of the Naga people and tribals, the emergency presidential council meeting of the United Naga Council (UNC) held today decided to temporarily lift/ suspend the ongoing economic blockade on all National Highways and ban on the construction of National and international projects including Trans-Asian Railways with effect from 4 pm today (Nov 5) .
The UNC emergency presidential council meeting held today at its office with Gaidon Karnei, president, UNC in the chair from 10 am also reviewed the decision of its meeting of Oct 29 .
It was also decided during the meeting that the UNC will not hesitate in taking up any form of democratic agitation if the Government fails to respect and honour the assurances and commitment given to the Naga people, said a statement issued by UNC general secretary, S Milan.
The meeting agreed that any threat/intimidation to the established position of the Nagas would be collectively faced by the Naga people and will responded in befitting manner.
The UNC further expressed heartfelt gratitude to tribal hohos, district apex organizations, frontal organizations and regional organizations, Church leaders, social workers and the general public for making the blockade and ban meaningful.
It will also look forward to the continuous support and cooperation till the cherished political aspiration is achieved, added UNC.
