150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi observed

Education Minister Thokchom Radheshyam observed the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi with the students of Ibotonsana Higher Secondary School, Uripok Tondonsana and Thaboumacha High School and Residential School Imphal West, Lamboikhongnangkhong at the respective school premises.
Cleanliness should not be just about keeping the surroundings and environment neat but also to cleanse the body, mind and soul, expressed the Minister.
He maintained that by doing so, it will bring purity in thinking and approach towards any occurrence.
Floral tributes were paid to the photo of the father of the Nation and social services were also held at the respective schools.
The programmes were organised to inspire the young minds from the stories of the sacrifices, services and dedication of great leaders for the motherland.
The Ministerial team, who were visiting the schools, include Commissioner, Education (S) T Ranjit, Director, Education (S) Th Kirankumar Singh, and Additional Director, Education (S) Hills, Lerte Hmangte Kom.
Th Radheshyam, while speaking to media personals, said that in connection with the birth anniversary of two great leaders - Mahatma Gandhi and Janna Neta Hijam Irawat, the Department of Education (S), Manipur has kicked off a month long observation from September 26 to October 25.During this period, a photo exhibition on the life and events of the two great leaders is being organised at some selected schools.
Debating competition, quiz, essay writing competitions, activities related to water conservation, tree plantation drive, painting competition/skit etc, were also organized.
The best ones will be featured in a book to be published by the Directorate, added the Minister.
As per the direction of the Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education (MGNCRE), Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), a weeklong campaign of work based learning of Nai Talim Gandhiji's Experimental Education with dignity of labour has also been taken up, he added.
On the other hand, National Institute of Electronics and Information technology (NIELIT) Imphal and ABVP organised 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on the theme "Gandhiji and his educational thoughts" at NIELIT complex today.
Lok Sabha MP Dr RK Ranjan, CAU, Iroishemba Professor Laishram Joykumar and NIELIT executive director Th Prameshwor attended the function as dignitaries.
NIELIT students demonstrated Yoga during the occasion.
Meanwhile, a meritorious award for 11 student of NIELIT and Yoga Achievers' felicitation were also held.
